I love it when Pantone announces the Color of the Year. For me, it sets the tone for the coming year. The fashion industry, beauty industry, interior designers, you name it start integrating the color into their collections before you can blink an eye. The 2014 Color of the Year is Radiant Orchid, a beautiful blend of blue and red with just a touch of black. It’s a nice change from the super bold Emerald and Tangerine Tango of the past two years. This color will look good on just about all skin tones and can be easily slipped into your current beauty routine without totally breaking the bank. Here are some great Radiant Orchid-esque beauty products to help you stay on trend.
The holidays are quickly approaching! I know it seems early to be thinking about gifts but I like to shop early so I get better more thoughtful gifts without spending a fortune (i.e. – no last minute gift cards). Each week I’m putting together a list of items for different people in our lives. This week I’ll start with the teen ladies. This girl is a budding fashionista with bold taste all her own. Here are a few ideas she will love!
2) A spa day for a teen facial. Teaching good skin care techniques at a young age is important, especially for teens when acne can become an issue and they start wearing makeup. A facial at your local spa is a fun way to spend time together and is a great unique gift!
4) Lulu’s Drawstring Handbag – $44
5) My Nail Polish Diary – $42
6) Fun Printed Tights like these Leopard Print ones from Nordstrom – $18 or 2 for $24
Every once in awhile, something is so exciting that it trumps all other news. That’s how I feel about the Isabel Marant for H&M collection and why it gets its own feature for my weekly Lust List. I feel like all these designer/big name retailer collaborations is really exciting. The quality seems like it’s just getting better and better. Remember the Alexander McQueen for Target years ago? It was like Target got the cheapest material ever for the designs and I didn’t end up keeping a single item!! I want that collab to be redone now that it’s becoming such a common thing and quality is taken more into consideration. The Isabel Marant for H&M designs are so perfectly executed that you’d be hard pressed to find something bad about the pieces. They scream “designer” without that hefty price tag. My alarm is set to be online at promptly 9AM (PST) on November 14th to hopefully swoop up a few swoon-worthy pieces from this highly anticipated collection. If you’re near a physical store, the doors open at 8AM (Local Time) for your shopping fun. If you are lucky enough to get your hands on any of this collection, Tweet me your score @WanderingHeels. I want to share in your shopping glory!
This is not a sponsored post. I’m just genuinely excited for this collaboration!
1) BREAST CANCER AWARENESS PRODUCTS
I love products with a cause. And I particularly like to support the Breast Cancer Awareness cause. Many of you probably already know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month so there are tons of ways that we can show our support. And what’s great is we can do so without having to donate tons of cash or attend swanky events (if you have the means, I want to see pictures of the event!). We can help just a little by purchasing some of the products that in turn will donate a portion of their proceeds to charity. Here are a few of my favorite products:
2) PUMPKIN PATCHES
I love this time of year. And one thing that really gets me in the spirit is heading to a pumpkin patch. I love to wander around and find the perfect pumpkins for carving. I’m no master carver but there’s nothing more fun to me than the traditional lopsided pumpkin smile. Stay tuned on my social media accounts if you’d like to see the final product!
3) HALLOWEEN PARTIES
It seems like most Halloween parties are happening this weekend and it’s one of my favorite parties of the year. It might be tied with Christmas and New Year parties… I can’t decide. Seeing everyone’s costumes is always a blast and I usually have mine planned out for the follow year by November 1st. I’m really excited about my costume but it’s a secret for now! You’ll just have to wait! Oh, the suspense! What are you going to be?
4) PUMPKIN SPICE EVERYTHING
You want to know how I know it’s fall? It’s not boots, not sweaters, not the changing colors of the leaves. It’s pumpkin spice everything emerging! I mean, seriously! You can get candles, creamer, coffee, beer, soap, etc in pumpkin spice flavors. And of course pumpkin pie starts popping up on menus all over. I personally love it. I tend to over do it and will be over it by December but I can’t help it! It’s like my cat nip!
5) FASHION 2.0: SEASON OF CHANGE BY YULI ZIV
Yuli Ziv’s next book in her Fashion 2.0 series will be a controversial hit discussed widely among those in the industry. It forecasts how the changing world of technology will disrupt the fashion industry. Without a doubt, technology will change all of us but this book sounds interesting and scary specific to fashion. My copy is on its way and I’m looking forward to doing a book review on it soon!
While we are still on our Hawaiian adventure, here are a few things that have made the island inspired lust list…
1) Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen
For as pale as I am, it’s a miracle I’m not burned to a crisp. I always rely on Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen for basically all my sunscreen needs. I haven’t gotten burned even a teeny tiny bit!! I’m knocking on wood as I write this though… just in case!
2) Anti-itch Cream
So I haven’t been sun burned but I’ve gotten so many mosquito bites I’m worried people will think I’ve contracted leprosy. Seriously, I have 22 bites and counting. It doesn’t help that I have basically no self control when it comes to itching them. Luckily my friend had brought some anti-itch cream that has become my favorite thing on the whole planet.
3) Sun Hats
I love me a good sun hat. Basically I love all hats but right now I’m specifically in need of some sun shade. My favorite, that I’ve mentioned in some previous posts, is my Eric Javis Squishee IV Wide Brim Hat. It has UPF 50+ which means my scalp will remain unburned! A double bonus is it packs really well. You can simply roll it up and throw it in your suitcase. I usually wear mine to the airport but that’s mostly because I’ve run out of room to pack it!
Both the homes we have been staying at on Oahu and the Big Island we found through Homeaway.com. Both of them have been really incredible. I totally prefer to stay in a rental home compared to a stuffy overcrowded resort. Not to mention with 2 or 3 couples, it ends up being a huge savings to rent 1 house over separate rooms. I’ll do reviews of our specific places soon!
5) Sparkly Debra Lippmann Nail Polish
I know it’s basically all about fall nails now but I’m stretching out some summery nails through the rest of my Hawaiian trip. I packed some fun sparkly Debra Lippmann polish in ocean and sunset shades. Right now I’m wearing the Mermaid’s Eyes color so I’d feel like a mermaid while I was snorkeling and swimming in the lagoon. It only seems appropriate!
Woohoo!! Hawaiian vacation here we come! We’ve just touched down in Oahu so this week’s lust list is largely inspired by our coming adventure. Happy lusting!
1) MAI TAIS
When I think Hawaii, I think of this fun tropical beverage. So while I’m here, this will be my drink of choice!
2) SPENDING TIME WITH OLD FRIENDS
We’re really here because we surprised my good friend of 15 years. She currently lives in Australia and Hawaii is about as half way as you can get to California. She didn’t know that we were coming to crash their vacation so the look on her face when we knocked on the rental place door was absolutely priceless. There’s nothing better in the whole world than good friends that love you no matter how silly/crazy/weird/obsessed/awesome you are.
3) JUMPSTART TO SKINNY BY BOB HARPER
Thanks to this diet and exercise program, I’m officially back down to the weight that my drivers license says I am! Before heading on our Hawaiian adventure, I knew I wanted to lose a few pounds before spending 24 hours a day in a bikini. So I researched and researched and this program seemed to have rave reviews! Well, I only had time to do 2 of the 3 week program and I lost 8 pounds! I’m feeling WAY more confident in my bod for its bikini debut. I’m not a doctor so always make sure you check with those guys first before starting any diet and exercise program but if you get the OK, I’m a huge advocate for this one. Pick up your copy here.
4) REVLON BY MARCHESA NAIL ART
I’ve definitely mentioned my love of nail art before (see here and here) so when I got wind of this, I made a mandatory stop at my local drug store. These things are little works of art for your nails! Not all of us are able to buy (or have a reason to wear) a Marchesa gown so now we get a little piece of it right at our finger tips! And since they last for up to 10 days, it’s an absolute must have! Hurry up and run to the nearest drugstore now!
I don’t think I really need to go into much description on this one… I mean… it’s LAVA!! We’ll be heading to the Big Island and I don’t care if we do nothing but find lava. If we find it, I’ll definitely be showing you the photos!
1) SOPHIA WEBSTER FOR J.CREW COLLECTION
Anybody that even kind of knows me knows that I have a teeny tiny (ok, HUGE!) obsession with shoes. Like, it’s unhealthy. So when I got wind of the Sophia Webster for J.Crew collection, I nearly had a shoe induced heart attack! The only problem with the unveiling at NYFW is that I have to wait until Spring 2014 to get my hands on them! The torture!!
2) THE HOME. T
I love when fashion and charity collide. It’s impossible to have buyer’s remorse when you know your purchase is doing some good! The Home T-shirt is a great way to do good AND be fashionable… basically the best combo ever, right? For every purchase, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to multiple sclerosis research. Now show your state some love!
You read that right! On this week’s Lust List is Overalls! Remember those pants with a bib look you probably rocked in the 90s? They’re baaaaaack! So turn up some Nirvana and slip into some overalls, right now! Make them a little more modern by trying them in leather (or faux!) or a dark wash denim. I like these and these.
4) KATE SPADE SPRING 2014 COLLECTION
I have spot reserved in my heart just for Kate Spade. The colorful girlyness is basically me spot on. I feel like they are reaching into my brain and making clothes specifically for me and my style. This season was no exception! Inspired by traveling through Europe, this collection is fun, flirty, and totally wearable! Is it Spring 2014, yet?
This is one of my favorite looks from the collection…
5) THE WORLD ACCORDING TO KARL BOOK RELEASE
The illusive and always sunglass clad Chanel designer, Karl Lagerfeld, is now sharing some words of wisdom with us underlings in his new book The World According to Karl. His notorious wit (in both the good and shocking spectrum) are synonymous with the man’s impeccable style. I’m looking forward to this collection of word gems. Here’s a small sampling of Karl Quotes: “Think pink. But don’t wear it.” “I like everything to be washable. Including myself.” “I only know how to play one role: me.” Releases September 17, 2013.
