Valentine’s Day Nails

NailsI love Valentine’s Day because it gives us an excuse to show our loved ones how much we care.  Not that we need an excuse but it’s an excuse nonetheless.  I’m definitely a girly girl at heart so painting my nails pink and sparkly for Valentine’s Day feels only natural!  I added “Love Always” Sally Hansen nail polish strips to my ring fingers for some extra fun.  And the final result was…

Nails 2Ta Da!  My nails are super short now that I started playing the banjo.  Doesn’t mean I can’t still have fun with it!  Here’s how it’s done.

Step 1:  Apply Sally Hansen nail polish strips to ring finger according to package directions.  Be sure to swipe the nail with polish remover to remove any residues before applying.  Trust me.  It seems counter-intuitive but it really makes the polish strip last longer!

Step 2:  Apply two coats of Essie “Blanc” nail polish.  Let it dry completely.  The next polish is so light that adding a pure white underneath will help so you’re not adding 30 coats to achieve full color.

Step 3: Apply two coats of Deborah Lippmann “Shape of My” Heart polish.

Step 4: Top off with 1 coat of Dior Perlé iridescent matte top coat.  Make sure to add the top coat to your Sally Hansen polish strip as well.  That’ll make all your nails matte so you don’t have 1 weird shiny finger.

Happy Valentine’s Day Loves!

Donut Kind of Day

DSC06064

After having a cold the past few days, I just wanted to be comfortable and have a little fun.  Nothing makes a day seem a little more playful than when you’re wearing donuts on your shoes and bag!  I mean, come on!  They’re colorful, silly, and topped with sprinkles!!  Happy days are mandatory when donuts are in the picture.  That’s why so many people like to eat them in the morning… I think.  Just kidding.  But really, when I saw these babies at the Kate Spade online surprise sale, I had to scoop them up.  They’re just too cute!  I’m a total sucker during those surprise sales though.  I’ve had to stop looking when they pop up on my social media feeds.  Definitely a little dangerous for the credit card bills…

Lust List Gift Guide: Gifts That Give Back Edition

With Thanksgiving coming this week, I like to take a minute to reflect on all the things in my life I’m grateful for.  Doing so makes me realize how lucky I really am.  I’m healthy and happy, what more do you really need in life?  That being said, a lot of people aren’t so lucky.  So for this Lust List Gift Guide, I’m focusing on products that give back.  All of the products listed give some percentage of their proceeds to a charity they support.  We can help others while still giving great gifts!  How cool is that?!

Gifts that give back

1) Theory Hody (RED) Unisex Beanie Hat – 25% of the sale price goes to the Global Fund to fight AIDS, providing women the medicine needed to prevent transmission of HIV from mother to child. ($65)

2) ManCans Candles – For each candle purchased, one meal is donated.  Candle scents like Gun Powder, Dirt, and Memphis Style BBQ are meant to appeal to men and are made from the soup can used for the meal!  It’s charitable AND green! ($9.50 Each)

3) FEED Kenya Bracelet – These hand-beaded one-of-a-kind bracelets provide 10 schools meals in Kenya.  ($40)

4) Chantecaille ‘Wild Horses’ Eyeshadow & Blush Set – 5% of proceeds go to the Humane Society of the United States to support their efforts to save Wild Horses. ($83)

7) Sevenly.org Tshirt – For every purchase on this website, $7 is donated to a different charity each week.  I’m loving their fun graphic Ts!

8) Anne Klein Silk Scarf – They have donated $50,000 in conjunction with their Pink Collection to the Breast Cancer Reseach Foundation.

9) Global Goods Partners Clutch Purse – As a member of the Fair Trade Federation and Green America, they offer opportunities for women that would otherwise not have access to export markets. ($75)

Monday Must-Have Lust List

1) BREAST CANCER AWARENESS PRODUCTS

I love products with a cause.  And I particularly like to support the Breast Cancer Awareness cause.  Many of you probably already know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month so there are tons of ways that we can show our support.  And what’s great is we can do so without having to donate tons of cash or attend swanky events (if you have the means, I want to see pictures of the event!).  We can help just a little by purchasing some of the products that in turn will donate a portion of their proceeds to charity.  Here are a few of my favorite products:

Deborah Lippmann Shape of My Heart

10% of proceed will benefit Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach, CA

10% of proceeds will benefit the Beast Cancer Foundation Center

10% of proceeds will benefit the Beast Cancer Foundation Center

Boscia Tsubaki Beauty Oil

20% of the proceeds is given to The Rose, a charity that supports women with breast cancer

2) PUMPKIN PATCHES

I love this time of year.  And one thing that really gets me in the spirit is heading to a pumpkin patch.  I love to wander around and find the perfect pumpkins for carving.  I’m no master carver but there’s nothing more fun to me than the traditional lopsided pumpkin smile.  Stay tuned on my social media accounts if you’d like to see the final product!

3) HALLOWEEN PARTIES

It seems like most Halloween parties are happening this weekend and it’s one of my favorite parties of the year.  It might be tied with Christmas and New Year parties…  I can’t decide.  Seeing everyone’s costumes is always a blast and I usually have mine planned out for the follow year by November 1st.  I’m really excited about my costume but it’s a secret for now!  You’ll just have to wait!  Oh, the suspense!  What are you going to be?

4) PUMPKIN SPICE EVERYTHING

You want to know how I know it’s fall?  It’s not boots, not sweaters, not the changing colors of the leaves.  It’s pumpkin spice everything emerging!  I mean, seriously!  You can get candles, creamer, coffee, beer, soap, etc in pumpkin spice flavors.  And of course pumpkin pie starts popping up on menus all over.  I personally love it.  I tend to over do it and will be over it by December but I can’t help it!  It’s like my cat nip!

5) FASHION 2.0: SEASON OF CHANGE BY YULI ZIV

Yuli Ziv’s next book in her Fashion 2.0 series will be a controversial hit discussed widely among those in the industry.  It forecasts how the changing world of technology will disrupt the fashion industry.  Without a doubt, technology will change all of us but this book sounds interesting and scary specific to fashion.  My copy is on its way and I’m looking forward to doing a book review on it soon!
