Fun with Black & White

DSC05771

My first look for 2014!  Man, it feels so weird to type 2014!  Today I decided to wear all black and white.  I’m always preaching my love for color but hey!  Why not mix it up a bit now and then?!  I actually purchased this skirt a while ago but it just sat in my closet because it’s kind of heavy and, according to the tag, is only to be spot cleaned with a wet cloth.  Didn’t notice that until I wore it… oops!  So it’s not exactly the kind of skirt you want to run around town all day in heat in, if you catch my drift.  Even though San Diego is still not participating in winter, at least it’s cooled down enough to think about adding more vaguely wintery clothes into the mix.  So… ta da!  My heavy skirt is making its first appearance.  I had some fun with today’s look by adding a bold black and white print top and some fuzzy puff heels!  Of course, I feel weird with zero color on so the red lip makes me feel more… me!

Just Add a Hat!

Wandering In Heels Brixton HatOne of my fashion philosophies is “When in doubt, add a hat.”  When I’m dressing casual, I feel like a great hat pulls my look together.  You could wear a plain white T and jeans with a great hat and Voila!  Instant style!  This Brixton hat is my latest go to and I love it!  I kind of feel the same way about booties too.  They works with everything from skirts to jeans and are so on trend.  These ones I think I paid like $8 for on Amazon 2 or 3 years ago.  I’m such a deal hunter, paying full price actually hurts me!  Keep searching and no doubt you’ll find some really great cheapies out there!

Book Review: That Extra Half an Inch By Victoria Beckham

That extra half an inch by Victoria Beckham

When I saw this book (at the Goodwill!) I knew I had to have it.  I actually didn’t even open it before I bought it so I was expecting a biography of sorts.  I was pleasantly surprised that it turned out to be a style guide!  Score!!  I’m a huge Victoria Beckham fan.  She has that classic effortless style that I love.  So her guide, That Extra Half an Inch, was a fun book for me to read!  She actually does give a lot of great style tips throughout and it’s really well illustrated.  There are a lot of photos of Victoria too, which is fun for fans like me.  She has a great cheeky writing style that lends some humor to the text.  It was written in 2006 so some of the “Where to Buy” sections are a bit outdated and doesn’t include some of the newer popular designers.  Otherwise the style advice is still very relevant.  A must read for all fans of Victoria’s style.
